Each member of the Sounds of
Pittsburgh Chorus takes pride in our commitment to excellence in the
field of a cappella four part harmony.
A cappella music is seeing a resurgence and is getting people of
all ages excited by its close harmonies. The Sounds of Pittsburgh
Chorus has been recognized for our reputation of excellence in sound and
performance for over 30 years throughout the tri-state area. Along with
nearly 30,000 women in 600 chapters of Sweet Adelines world-wide, a love
of singing keeps us entertaining audiences year-round. Sounds of Pittsburgh
Chorus sings a wide variety of music arranged in the barbershop
style, from Broadway show tunes and big band sounds to patriotic crowd
pleasers and old time ballads. Stereotypes are broken by Sounds
including surprising elements like swing, pop, disco, and even a little
classical music!
Our
objective is to educate chorus members in the original American
art form of a cappella harmony in the barbershop style, entertain in the
community, and support efforts to promote and retain this art form for
future generations. We pursue these objectives through education,
performance and community service throughout the Greater Pittsburgh
area..
Sounds of Pittsburgh is a past championship
chorus, having represented our four-state region five times on the
thrilling international contest stage from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.
The women who are currently members of
the chorus come from more than forty communities in the tri-state area
to sing with this high-caliber performing chorus. Some members live as close as
the City of Pittsburgh or Moon Township. Some hail from Tarentum and
Export in the east, Morgantown, WV to the south, Hubbard, OH and Beaver,
PA to the west and Butler in the north. Our membership includes teachers,
secretaries, students, homemakers, business owners, retirees and more...
the only thing missing is YOU!
